Camp Details:

Trail's End Campground is located next to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy life. There is good fishing for walleye, northern pike, small mouth bass, and lake trout. Wildlife viewing includes eagles, osprey, loons, and moose. Overnight, day-use, and boat motor permits are required in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and horsepower limits are in effect. Conveniences are available at area lodges and resorts. Campsites will accommodate equipment from a tent to a 20 foot maximum length trailer or a 45 foot motorhome.

The Ham Lake Fire passed through Trail's End on May 7th, 2007. The fire burned in a mosaic pattern, reducing some areas to ash while leaving others untouched. You'll be surprised by how many trees survived the fire and how burnt areas have 'greened-up' with passing years.

In addition to natural regeneration, seedlings have been planted in many areas. Post fire soils and young trees are delicate, so please be careful where you walk while nature restores the forest. Also, dead trees outside of campsites have been left standing to provide habitat. Due to this, walking in previously burned areas could be hazardous. We hope you enjoy watching a young forest grow as 2007 recedes into the past.
