Camp Details:

Located in the Ward Lake Recreation Area, 7 miles north of downtown Ketchikan, approximately 4 miles north of the State ferry terminal. Campground is immediately adjacent to Ward Lake. It is surrounded by an old-growth temperate rainforest comprised primarily of western hemlock and Sitka spruce. The Ward Lake Recreation Area boasts several trails - one of which traverses the circumference of Ward Lake and passes through the campground - as well as a large day-use complex with picnic sites and shelters. There is easy access to freshwater fishing, wildlife viewing, and scenery. Non-motorized boating, such as canoeing or kayaking, is permitted on Ward Lake (no boat launch, but beach at day use area is suitable).

Open year round: April 15 Labor Day (peak season): All sites open, fee charged.
Sites 6-24 must be vacated the Tuesday after Labor Day. Day after Labor Day - March 30: Sites 1-5 open, free of charge. Reservations may only be made during the peak season. The rest of the year camping is first-come, first-served. During the peak season, some campsites are available both by reservation and to walk-in campers. Reservations will be posted in advance. Some sites are non-reserveable and only available to walk-in campers, year-round.
Each campsite contains: picnic table, fire ring with grill, and gravel parking spurs. Campsites are designed to accommodate up to 10 people and one vehicle. Some sites may not accommodate larger RV's; see list of site specifics for further information. Campers with larger RV's may wish to utilize nearby Last Chance Campground. Campground has three handpumps for drinking water and three vault outhouses. Water is provided during the peak season only. All outhouses are open during the peak season; during the winter season only the one closest to sites 1- 5 is open. Campground host is onsite during most of the peak season. Firewood may be provided but is not guaranteed.

Reservations must be made 5 days in advanced.
