SEELY CREEK GUARD STATION

Seely Creek Guard Station which is located on top of the Wasatch Plateau was built in either late 1907 or early 1908. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The cabin is available for reservations from July 1st through October 15 and from December 15th through March 31st. The cabin has a woodstove and fireplace for heating. There is a table and chairs and bunks without mattresses for 4. An outhouse is approximately 50 feet away. The cabin is located at an elevation of approximately 10,000 feet which means you should be prepared for all types of weather including snow or hail especially after September.Fire wood will be supplied during the winter months only.

From Orangeville Utah take take state hwy 29 west to Joes Valley Reservoir. When you get to the reservoir follow the road around to the right to the other side. When you start heading away from the reservoir and toward the plateau you'll pass Orange Olsen work center on the right and then a road off to the left. Do not turn,continue on 29 which is now a dirt road and goes up to the top of the plateau.( A warning about the road here which gets narrow and when wet this lower stretch gets extremely slick and you may want to wait for it to dry especially if pulling a trailer). From where the road turns to dirt it's about 11 miles to the top. Just before you reach the top look for a Forest Service Road #050 and the sign on the left that says Seely Guard Station 2 miles. This will be within a 1/4 mile of Skyline Drive (Forest Service Road [FSR]#150). Take FSR #050 to the left and at about 1 1/4 mile you will come to the cabin. A reminder that during or after inclement weather the last mile or more into the cabin may be difficult (muddy) especially without a 4 X 4 high clearance vehicle.

From Ephraim head east up State HWY 29 up Ephraim Canyon . You'll pass the Forest Boundary at about 3.5 miles from town.. Stay on HWY 29 which is now a dirt road all the way to the top of the Plateau (approximately another 11.5 miles). When you hit Skyline Drive which is on the top of the plateau turn right and at just over a tenth of a mile take FSR #2326 to the left. Go down this two track road for just under 1 mile to the cabin. A reminder that during or after inclement weather the last mile into the cabin may be difficult (muddy) especially without a 4 X 4 high clearance vehicle.
