Sometimes there is a campground host, but not always

Water availability is seasonal

Showers can be found in Lone Pine and at Lake Diaz

The campground was remodeled a few years ago and now has lantern holders.

There are some pull through sites

Addtional Things to Do:

Whitney Portals and the Alabama Hills are both near this campground. Also there is a great museum in Lone Pine about the film history of the Alabama Hills.

Camp Details:

BLM campground that runs along both sides of Tuttle Creek. It is open year around and has views of Owens Lake and Lone Pine and the Sierras. But Mt. Whitney is not visible from the campground.

There are small trees, but nothing big enough to provide shade. This campground is on the flats, in sagebrush country not in the mountains.

From Hwy 395, drive 3.5 miles west of Lone Pine on Whitney Portal Road, then 1.5 miles south on Horseshoe Meadow Road. Follow signs to campground.


Closest Facilities:

Lone Pine has all the basic amenities -- small grocery store, gas stations, and restaurants. The hostel has showers.
