The Snow Survey Cabin is available year-round. It was built in 1944 as a shelter for government snow survey crews that measured the snow's depth and moisture content each year. It is located near the Snowy Range Scenic Byway, Highway 130, yet the cabin is not visible from the highway. The cabin is approximately 28 miles southeast of Saratoga, Wyoming and 44 miles west of Laramie, Wyoming. In summer and autumn the cabin can be easily driven to. In winter and spring the cabin is one mile beyond the winter closure gate on west Highway 130 and is accessible by skis, snowshoes or snowmobiles.
