Flaming Gorge Corporation operates this campground under a Special Use Permit with the US Forest Service. This campground is one of the most popular on Flaming Gorge Reservoir and is named for a hiding spot used by Butch Cassidy and his gang. Hideout Canyon is located at 6040' in a Pinyon pine and juniper forest on the shore of Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Access to this campground is by boating or hiking. Foot travel should use the Hideout/ Carter Creek trailhead on Dowd Mountain off Forest Road 94. Most patrons of Hideout Canyon boat to the campground, with the majority using Sheep Creek Bay Boat Ramp.
There are 18 single-family sites, 14 of which can be reserved. Reservations are strongly suggested. 3 sites are ADA accessible. Each single-family has a cabana, picnic table, and fire ring. The campground area offers a flush restroom, water hydrants, and gravel trails between campsites. A vault toilet is available for off-season use.
