Watchman Campground is located near the park's south entrance near the town of Springdale, an ideal location from which to base your stay in Zion.
The campground is a short walk from the park's main Visitor Center and the Zion Canyon Shuttle System. The canyon is only accessible by shuttle bus from approximately April to October each year.
Watchman Campground is open year-round. For arrivals from March 6 to March 24, 2010, you can make reservations for campsites in Loops A and D, and the Zion Group Sites. For arrivals from March 25 to October 23, 2010, you can make reservations up to six months in advance for all campsites.
There are three types of campsites:
- TENT ONLY--no RVs, trailers, pop-ups, vans, or pickup campers
- ELECTRIC--in addition to RVs, tents are permitted in most sites. No more than two tends in addition to one RV. Tents must remain on RV pads.
- GROUP--7 sites that accomodate between 9 and 40 people; TENTS ONLY
Generators are not permitted at any time.
Gathering of firewood is prohibited. During hot and dry summer months, fire restrictions are common and campfires (including charcoal fires) may be prohibited.
South Campground is located 1/2 mile from Watchman Campground. It is open from March through October and has 127 campsites that are availabile on a first come, first served basis.
