Excelsior has two very large group campsites on the Nooksack River along the north side of Mt. Baker and about 5 miles due south of the Canadian border. The wildlife is plentiful, so it is important to remember to keep food put away while sleeping or out hiking so that you don't attract bears or other unwanted guests. There are two sites. The first site, A is somewhat smaller and less appealing. This one is priced less per night because it is smaller and has less privacy than B. The second is site B which is larger and has more solitude since one must pass through the first group site to get to the second. The sites are large enough for 50 people in site A and 75 in site B. Site A has six picnic tables with firepits and site B has 15 tables with almost as many firepits. This is the largest group campground in the Mt. Baker - Snoqualmie National Forest. If the whole campground were taken it would be ideal for large scout gatherings or multi church youth gatherings. Gate keys are available from the Douglas Fir Campground host.
