**Road construction on the Wawona Road in Yosemite National Park is set to begin in May. This project will vastly improve 24.4 miles of the Wawona Road starting from the South Entrance of Yosemite along the Wawona Road.
Visitors traveling into Yosemite via Highway 41/Wawona Road will experience up to 30 minute delays Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Additionally, 60 minute delays will be scheduled from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Friday through Sunday.**
The Wawona Campground family sites remain open year round, and are currently available on a reservation basis.
Wawona Campground offers Family, Group, and Horse campsites:
- Family sites (93) -- 23 sites available first-come first-serve during the winter months. The Wawona dump station is only available during summer months.
- Group site (1) -- Available year-round by reservation only; group size=13-30 people, tent only
- Horse sites (2) -- You MUST have a horse with you to camp in these sites, no exceptions! (if you arrive without a horse, your reservation will be cancelled). Available by reservation only from April 1-September 26, 2010. Reservations for Horse Sites can only be made over the phone at (877)444-6777. On-line reservations are not accepted for horse sites.
- This campground is located at the southern end of Yosemite National Park at 4000 feet in elevation. It is 27 miles and a 45 minute drive to the valley.
