The Carter Meadows Horse Group Site lies at 5,800 feet elevation. It is adjacent to the Trinity Alps Wilderness and the Pacific Crest Trail. From this site, groups can ride to three trailheads that access several wilderness lakes and many miles of trails. (Note: Trips into the Trinity Alps Wilderness are restricted to a group size of 10 persons) It is available for reservations from about mid June to mid October, snow conditions permitting. The Salmon-Scott River Ranger District, 530-468-5351, should be contacted for snow and trail conditions.

Directions to Activity:

Take Interstate 5 to Yreka, CA. Take the south Yreka exit "HWY 3" to Fort Jones, 18 miles, and continue south on Hwy 3 to Callahan, 23 miles. Turn right (west) on Hwy 93, toward Cecilville, and continue 12 miles to Carter Meadows Summit. Approximately 1/2 mile beyond the summit, turn left (south) on Road 39N08. The Group Site is another 1/4 mile on the right.
