One of the oldest historic site museums in the US, The Hermitage is a 1,120-acre property with agricultural fields, wildlife areas, and more than 100 cultural resources, including landscaped grounds, a formal garden, cemeteries, and preserved archaeological sites. More than 25 historic buildings include two Greek Revival mansions, a community church, a presidential tomb, slave cabins, and the original ca. 1800 log farmhouse, now undergoing restoration as a Save America's Treasures Official Project. The mission of the Ladies' Hermitage Association, a nonprofit organization founded in 1889 to preserve the home of President Andrew Jackson, is to serve as a learning resource for a diverse public. We will engage the public through preservation, interpretation, exhibitions, education, research, and publications to increase understanding of the complex issues of Andrew Jackson and his time, and to discuss their relationship to issues and events of today, and to inspire cultural citizenship.
