Balsam Glade Picnic Area is located just above the base of the Sandia Peak Ski Area. The area is 23 miles from Albuquerque. The picnic area is adjacent to the Madera Canyon overlook a short hike from the picnic area The picnic area has a covered shelter which is a replica of a mid-1930's Civilian Conservation Corps design.
