Doc Long Picnic Area lies adjacent to the Sandia Mountain Scenic Byway. The picnic area is just 15 miles from Albuquerque, New Mexico. This picnic area lies amongst tall pine trees and mountainous terrain. Three adjacent hiking trails provide visitors with many loop trail alterna The two sites are covered by shelters which are replicas of a mid-1930's CCC design.

From Albuquerque drive east on I-40 approximately 7 miles to exit 175. Proceed north on Highway 14, 7 miles to Highway 536. Go west on Highway 536, 1-1/2 miles to Doc Long Picnic Ground. Group sites are in the two covered areas adjacent to the road. Altitude is 7500', wood and charcoal not available. Sites are close to hiking trails.
